When you’re starting out in writing or anything, the only thing that matters is execution. I’ve said this before, done is better than perfect and hitting your goals is more important than the illusions people have about you or how they perceive you in general.
When you hit your goal, your brain create a trigger, a reward trigger, that pulls and releases either dopamine or endorphins (both chemicals make you feel good, just in different ways) and your subconscious mind will begin to write a mental program that will push you to execute more of what makes you feel good and less of what causes you pain and suffering.
With me so far? Cool.
Anyway, the essence of execution is to exercise your will power, to prove to yourself that you have the power to take control of your life and change it. This especially applies to writing for those who can’t get past writers’ block or those who can’t seem to start a reading habit or those who can’t seem to find the girl of their dreams or whatever, it’s the same thing.
To make any everlasting changes in your life, you need to develop the habit of execution and understand that execution is about hitting your goals and exercising your willpower. Nothing else. Why do you think guys workout at the gym? Why do you think computer scientists code all day? Why do you think some of the best writers write every day with no days off? It’s because of the endorphin release they get from hitting their goals and doing what they said they were going to do.
This is what creates integrity and a stronger sense of self, because when you hit your goals and succeed on a consistent basis, you start to perform more actions that are conducive to your success. And, your subconscious mind will push you to execute more of those actions to the point you aren’t even aware of the steps you’re taking to improve yourself.
When that starts happening, you’ll see your life change right before your eyes in leaps and bounds. Your mind will be sharper and clearer, your body will be the picture of health, your stories will be more creative and interesting, you’ll read books faster and with more clarity and focus.
When you understand the essence of execution, you begin to move into action and take control of all the things you thought weren’t but really were the whole time. And, when you understand the essence of execution, you will be able to do anything you want.
Well, as always, that’s my spiel on the subject.
Till next week and Happy New Year!
